Description

This Japanese embroidered textile hanging (dating 1871–1930) features peacocks. Associated with royalty and symbolising beauty, immortality and exoticism, the peacock has long been a favourite motif of artists around the world. One of the most distinctive features of the peacocks in Meiji textiles is that peacocks were often paired with cherry blossoms.
