Print of what was originally a wall hanging, dating from 1558-1560, showing two comets. It was originally published by the Working Men's Educational Union. The image is possibly of Donati's Comet, now formally designated C/1858 L1 and 1858 VI. Named after the Italian astronomer Giovanni Battista Donati, who first observed it on 2 June 1858, the comet's closest approach to Earth occurred on 10 October 1858. The Working Men's Educational Union was a philanthropic society that aimed to provide education to the working classes.
