New: Archive Views

Surface View Blog / 13 Sep 2019

This autumn sees the launch of two new ranges of designs - Archive Views and Walls on Walls. We're delighted to showcase these new and exciting designs, each redrawn and reworked from the original archive documents and photographs, to create stunning statement wall murals, printed ceramic tile murals and window blinds.

Archive Views is a selection of five of our most loved classic archive images from the V&A, Ashmolean Museum and Warner Textile Archive collections. Each design create real wow factor in any room, but we particularly love them in bedrooms, bathrooms, living rooms and dining rooms. Every design stretches floor to ceiling and can be repeated horizontally as many times as required, allowing you to go for a single statement wall or cover all four walls.

The Archive Views range includes a delicate Chinese mountain landscape, two stunning Chinoisierie style designs, perfect for bedrooms and living rooms, a dramatic, large scale floral ideal for maximalists and a design of Flamingoes and Magnolia shown above as gorgeous ceramic tiles in a contemporary bathroom.

The colourways range from dramatic dark tones to soft, chalky pastels - so you can create anything from a romantic and tranquil bedroom to a glamourous bedroom; a restful bathroom to a sumptuous dining room or an elegant living room.

A striking example of Chinoiserie design, we’ve transformed one of our best loved V&A Chinoiserie panels to offer limitless possibilities. Showcasing the incredible craftsmanship of the original artwork, birds and butterflies flutter from panel to panel seamlessly, allowing you to wallpaper multiple walls in this stunning design. Camellia Chinoiserie is available in four classic colourways – Jade Green, Plaster Pink, Parchment and Duck Egg. We think this works brilliantly in bedrooms and living rooms for a serene and relaxing space.

Wotton-Under-Edge Chinoiserie is the second Chinoiserie design from this range. Adapted from the original 18th century Chinoiserie wallpaper panel discovered at a house in Wotton-under-Edge. Originally a narrow panel, it has been lovingly transformed into a repeating design which shows off the beautifully painted watercolour blossom trees and birds. Available in 4 chalky colours Mist Green, Clay Blue, Stone and Parchment, each colour has been curated to create a sophisticate effect in living rooms, bedrooms and dining rooms.

Ming Mountain Scenic is a delicate design taken from an original Ming dynasty Chinese scroll painting in the V&A archive. All the artistry of the original painting has been retained whilst updating it to create a contemporary effect through colour, layout and scale. Available in two colourways, pictured as a mural wallpaper in a contemporary living room and a ceramic tile mural in the China Blue colourway shown here in a beautiful airy bathroom.

We've transformed one of our most treasured Dutch Still Life paintings to present to you De Heem Floral Bouquet Scenic Midnight. A larger than life, floor to ceiling, flower wallpaper design which is guaranteed to stop you in your tracks. Preserving all the elegance and lustre of the original artwork, this wallpaper mural is dark, moody and totally seductive!

Flamingoes and Magnolia Scenic is a striking design of elegant flamingoes wading and preening amongst water lilies surrounding a magnolia tree in full bloom. It is taken from a design from the Warner Textile Archive and is available in the original midnight colourway and two new sophisticated colourways. It looks simply fabulous as a tile mural in bathrooms, mural wallpaper in bedrooms and even on a smaller scale as roller blinds and canvases.
