Heal’s like to think of their sofas as works of art. Viewed from any angle, they are inspirational, sculptural artifacts created by master craftsmen.
So they decided to take some of their most iconic sofas and display them side by side with complementary works of art by the likes of Van Gogh, Gainsborough and Rosetti – exquisitely reproduced as Surface View large scale canvases.
The result? Heal’s Masterpieces.

The 13 painting/sofa combinations were selected by Visual Display Manager Ben Rhodes, who teamed, for example, The Rokeby Venus by Velasquez with an equally seductive and voluptuous Oscar sofa by Matthew Hilton. He also styled a pastel-coloured Linea sofa to work in perfect harmony with Seurat’s Bathers at Asnières. ‘We wanted people to look at our sofas in a fresh light,’ Ben explains. ‘In a way, we’ve turned the entire ground floor showroom into a kind of gallery space.’
The result is a gorgeous melange of art, design and craftsmanship – which sums up the Heal’s heritage. Why not pop in and choose your favourite combination? And if you fall in love with any of the canvases, the good news is they will be on sale when the display is taken down on 27th April.
